Ooh nice. Hmm.. Ring of Earth becomes a little harder to get into play -- have to not only be opposed but win, and win without losing a personality during the battle (*). And now it can be discarded to reduce province strength. Nice. Ring of Fire becomes much easier to put into play -- No more "win a duel at a battle", just destroy an enemy card at a battle resolution. So a draw would do it, or an effect that destroys a card at resolution (rather than during the battle). Since Enlightenment doesn't instant-win anymore, having easier conditions is balanced nicely. And becomes a lot more viable removing the dueling requirement, too.
(*) Are there edge effects to the "none of your personalities were destroyed in the battle" -- such as personalities being destroyed in the resolution step? Do they count towards "in the battle"? Or can one person drop a Ring of Earth (due to not losing someone IN the battle, but winning) while their opponent drops Ring of Fire (because the personality was destroyed in the RESOLUTION)?
I don't get your comment. How can the Ring of Fire destroy anyone in resolution if the Ring of Earth player wins the battle?
Regarding the Ring of Earth, are the conditions satisfied if you are not opposed at resolution? For example, Player A attacks Player B with one personality. Player B sends home that personality, no further actions are taken by either player. Can Player B put the Ring of Earth into play?
Ring of Earth says 'if there was ever', so yes if you send home your opponent and destroy the province without losing personalities you can put Earth out.
I like that Fire is equal OR lower chi now rather than lower, it makes it actually playable rather than just added for Enlightening.
Regarding marty's question - Earth specifically says that you have to win the battle. Though if you got a draw both players could drop Fire
I like that Ring of Fire is simply the old Ring of Earth in terms of conditions and that it is better to use. I do NOT like the new Ring of Earth. It is really too difficult to put into play. I also strongly dislike that there is no reference to duelling any more in any Ring. That's sad and it looks like the nerfing of duelling continues... :( I think it makes the game a little bit less interesting, flavour wise. That's too bad.
Dueling is what kept other clans from Enligthening. With AEG being serious about that needing to change, it had to get away from dueling, plus RoF requiring dueling hindered deck construction.
As for RoE, I don't think it will be that bad. It can be put into play on the defensive, since it says win a battle, not destroy a province.
Earth shouldn't be that hard to get into play. You don't have to take a province or even kill an opposing unit.
As long as there was an opposing unit at the battlefield sometime during the battle, and at the end of the battle you have more force than your opponent, you can drop Earth.
As started here (http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Battles#C._Resolution_Segment):
1. Determine Outcome: Total the Force of each army (see Total Force). Whichever army has the highest total Force wins.
OK, Ambush has been previewed, so yes, RoE might be a little bit easier to pull. Still extremely hard and very dangerous to try. Enlightenment is indeed a lot easier for more military oriented Clans (who have already a relatively easier field) but just got a lot harder for the others.
Ooh nice.

I meant to write "How can the Ring of Fire player destroy anyone in resolution.." in the forst paragraph.
ReplyDeleteSigh. "first paragraph" Damn monkey hands.

ReplyDeleteAmbush as perfect RoE card. Ambush-Naval/Sneak-kill-RoE.

Kempy, but has Ambush been confirmed for EE yet?
ReplyDeleteNo, but i hope it will be reprinted because this card is immortal (like Sneak Attack).

And as long as one of your people isn't destroyed, and there is a LOT of naked personality hate out there.

ReplyDeleteFixed the pics, now you gotta click read more though. Sorry for all the problems with this one.
